With the same consumption, those who have a second home could receive higher bills than those of a first home. But how is it possible if the second house is usually used less than the first? How can the energy consumed in a second home cost more than that of the first home, even if it is consumed in equal or even less quantities? Read on to find out why second home bills are higher than first home bills.
Have one second house it is undoubtedly a nice privilege, especially if it is located in a beautiful holiday resort or in a place that allows us to “escape”, perhaps during the weekend or on bridges, from the hustle and bustle of the city routine. However, this privilege is not without costs, often also high: the bills I am one of them.
Why yes, the cost of bills for second homes it is not the same as that for the first ones: let’s find out immediately why!
First and second home bill: what are the differences
Let’s start immediately by saying that the most substantial differences between the bills of the first and second homes concern electricity. In fact, it is good to know that they are there 3 distinct types of rates for electricity, created to “benefit” the residents of the first homes and, above all, those who consume electricity in a constant and uniform way, but which can create some problems for the owners of second homes. Here’s what they are:
- There TDPC tariff: designed to meet the needs of those who have very high annual consumption and rely on a high energy efficiency electric heat pump;
- there TDR tariff: for residents of the home where they intend to use the electricity in question, up to a maximum of 3 kW. The peculiarity of this tariff is that the total cost decreases with increasing consumption. Indeed, beyond a certain limit, you can benefit from the cancellation of energy taxes. It is clear that this rate is to the advantage of those who reside in a first home, who can thus enjoy the fact that high consumption is not matched by excessively high bills;
- there TDNR tariff: affects those who exceed 3 kW. Unlike the TDR, the TDNR also concerns non-residents in the home and has a rather evident disadvantage given that, although here too the costs are inversely proportional to consumption, fixed costs and system chargesinstead, increase.
In general, we can therefore say that, with regard to electricity bills, the costs and rates are convenient for those who are constantly resident in the home in question and makes daily use of energy. However, this is the result of the increase in fixed costs, for the bills of second homes.
Gas bill first and second home
As we said, this difference does not concern the costs of the gasBasically, there are no major imbalances between the gas bills of the first homes and those of the second homes. In the case of gas, it is not so much the type of house that makes the difference, but yours geographical location: it is clear that a second home in a warm place, for example by the sea, will require less gas than a second home in the mountains. It will then be the climate to dictate the final cost in the bill and not the presence of more or less advantageous rates for the first homes.
So for save on gas bill costs of your second home, the best thing you can do is make sure you follow through virtuous behavior in terms of energy use and, above all, verify that systems, windows and doors are functional and performing: the internal temperature can change a lot in the presence of old windows or doors.
It is also important to remember to do all the correctly periodic maintenance of boilers and radiators, as well as consider replacing the old boilers with heat pump systems: these are expenses that may seem superfluous, especially if made for a second home, but which pay off in the long run.
Second home electricity bill: how to save
How save on the electricity bill of the second home, in the face of everything we have just explained to you? Without a doubt, our advice is to make the most of your second hometo amortize costs and, above all, balance fixed costs and system charges.
Net of a constant and intelligent use of electricity, we advise you to balance the costs of the second home with a strategic, far-sighted and conscious use of gas and water: if there is little to do about the electricity bills, it is possible instead to commit to using heating and water in a “smart” way, especially if the house is in a warm place.
Other than that, it is important to remember leave the light user activeeven if the second home is not used much and you have the feeling of spending for nothing: in this way you will save not only precious time and energy that you would otherwise have to devote to the continuous activation of new contracts, but you will avoid paying penalties and paperwork for switching on the various utilities when necessary.
Furthermore, we suggest that you do not entrust the electricity supply for your second home to the first company you find, but to look for a reliable supplierin step with the times and able to offer you products and solutions suitable for your situation as a second home owner: some companies have proposals designed to meet the needs of those who have a second home and do not want to find themselves with excessively expensive bills !
