Nintendo Direct: all the games announced and summarized, there is the new Zelda

Between Summer Game Fest and Gamescom, summer 2022 did not have Nintendo among the protagonists, which limited itself to showing some products arriving on Switch through Direct Mini or single-issue events, such as those dedicated to Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and Splatoon 3. In the end, however, the persistent rumors materialized and the Kyoto company has finally announced the new and awaited Nintendo Direct, which in 40 minutes full of announcements he revealed to the public the future lineup for the hybrid console. Here are all the announcements made during the appointment.

The new Fire Emblem is a welcome arrival

Opening the dances was the announcement of the new Fire Emblem, a historic series of turn-based strategy that returns with Engage. The trailer shown at Direct not only presented the characters and revealed some information on the plot, but also allowed players to discover new gameplay thanks to numerous sequences with the fighting and tactical phases at the center. Fire Emblem Engage will arrive exclusively on Nintendo Switch on January 23, 2023 and will be distributed in two versions: the standard one and the limited one, containing numerous extra content for fans.

The second announcement concerns a product already available on PC and other platforms, aka It Takes Two: the small cooperative jewel of Josef Fares is preparing to arrive also on Nintendo Switch with an exclusive feature that allows you to play in local multiplayer with two consoles or online, in both cases using the free Friend Pass. Furthermore, as anticipated by The Snitch, Project Zero: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse was announced during the Direct and will arrive at the beginning of 2023 on Nintendo Switch.

Between farms and unlikely fitness games

One of the most bizarre announcements of the event is certainly that of Fitness Boxing Fist of the North Star, a bizarre title set in the universe of Ken the Warrior that will help players do physical exercises starting in March 2022. Then it’s the turn of OddBallers, a nice party game with low poly graphics that promises hours of fun thanks to many mini-games of different types.

The appeal was not lacking even Front Mission with the remakes of the first and second chapter. The two games were shown with a video that reveals the various modes and confirms the release dates: the first will arrive in November and the second next year. But that’s not allas the existence of the remake of Front Mission 3, due out soon, was also revealed.

Those who want a relaxing product in full Harvest Moon / Stardew Valley style will be happy to know that Story of Seasons a Wonderful Life will be released in the course of summer 2023 on the Nintendo Switch and will allow players to create a farm and devote themselves to crops. Those who love the genre will also be able to discover the new Fae Farm, another simulator with support for online multiplayer arriving only on Switch during the spring of 2023. To close the circle we find Harvestella, which mixes the relaxation of the countryside with more action-oriented combat phases. Harvestella will arrive on November 4, 2022 and it is already possible to try it thanks to a demo available on eShop.

Lots of DLCs for Switch exclusives

Nintendo also wanted to give space to the exclusives already available that are preparing to receive new free or paid content. In this regard, there was no shortage of a small parenthesis dedicated to the additional contents of the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 pass: Volume 2 will contain the new hero Ino and the Challenge mode, which will put players against growing threats.

Volume 2 of the role-playing game will arrive exclusively on Switch on October 14, 2022. Splatoon 3, on the other hand, will host the first Festival from 24 to 26 September 2022 at 2:00 in the Italian time zone, the main theme of which will be “What would you bring to a desert island? Utensils? Snacks? Or hobbies?”.

We then move on to Mario Strikers Battle League Football, with Package 2 that will arrive by the end of September and will allow players to wear new pieces of equipment and take the field as Diddy Kong and Pauline.

Other Super Mario-themed DLCs are those of Mario Kart 8, of which the imminent arrival of Package 3 linked to the Additional Routes has been unveiled, which will include the circuit seen on Nintendo DS entitled Peach’s Garden and seven other tracks. The Nintendo Switch Sport has not been forgotten either, which continues to receive additional content: the next update will introduce golf and will be published in winter 2022.

From Crisis Core to Octopath Traveler 2

Ample space was also given to Square Enix, which showed numerous products coming soon. We start from Octopath Traveler 2, the second chapter of the JRPG with a peculiar retro graphic style whose new trailer introduces us to some of the characters that we will be able to meet during the adventure. The Japanese company then announced Theatrhythm Final Bar Line, a music game that will include 385 songs from the various chapters of Final Fantasy and, as post-launch support, will allow players to purchase a DLC with 90 songs belonging to other Square titles. Enix, among which we find Nier, Octopath Traveler and Live A Live.

But that’s not all, as Direct was the stage for the announcement of the long-awaited official release date of Crisis Core Final Fantasy 7 Reunion, which will arrive on December 13, 2022 on Nintendo Switch and other platforms, just as anticipated a few weeks ago in a leak.

The return of Rune Factory

From the creators of Danganronpa comes Master Detective Archives: Rain Code, an investigative title with anime-style graphics in which we will have to solve a series of cases after carefully visiting the crime scenes in search of every possible evidence. The game will arrive on Nintendo Switch in the first half of 2023.

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope could not miss the appeal either, the title of Ubisoft Milan arriving on October 20 of which we have seen some gameplay sequences focused on exploration and fighting, this time set in an icy land. Also Ubisoft themed is the trailer for Just Dance 2023 Edition, already shown at last Saturday’s event.

To the delight of Rune Factory fans, moreover, Nintendo has confirmed the arrival in 2023 of Rune Factory 3 Special on Switch, which will precede the arrival of a new series linked to the brand in the future, although no concrete details have been revealed on the future of IP. Another oriental-themed announcement is Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist of the End & the Secret Key, the exciting RPG that will arrive on Switch on February 24, 2023.

A little bit of Resident Evil

A small space has been carved out for Capcom and, more specifically, for Resident Evil. In a completely unexpected way, the software house announced that Resident Evil Village Cloud will be available on Switch from October 28, 2022 and anyone can already test the infrastructure online with a demo, available on eShop.

As if that were not enough, all the expansions of the Gold Edition will arrive, although their release date does not coincide with that of the remaining versions, since they will arrive on the hybrid console from 2 December 2022. Capcom wanted to go big and also announced that the eighth chapter of the famous series is the first of a list coming to Switch thanks to the cloud. It has in fact been confirmed that Resident Evil 2 Remake, Resident Evil 3 Remake and Resident Evil 7 will arrive on eShop by the end of the year.

Let’s move on to the exclusives

The immortal Miyamoto then appeared to remind fans that they are still in the works the Mario Bros movie coming in 2023 and the park soon to open. The legendary developer also showed a gameplay sequence of Pikmin Bloom, the mobile game that uses augmented reality in Pokémon GO style and that allows users to collect the little colorful creatures to complete some challenges and have fun outdoors.

The presence of the creator of the mustachioed plumber was also used to reveal the future of the series: a teaser officially announced that Pikmin 4 will arrive in 2023 and will offer a new game view, different from its predecessors.

The Kyoto company hasn’t forgotten Bayonetta 3 either, which is back with a new gameplay trailer that also reveals some new information on the plot of the awaited stylish action released exclusively on Switch on October 28, 2022. Kirby was also among the protagonists of the Direct with the announcement of Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe, a cooperative title that includes a myriad of mini-games whose release on Nintendo Switch is set for February 24, 2023, with pre-orders already open on eShop.

A small curtain was then dedicated to the Nintendo Switch Online, which is preparing to receive a lot of old titles in two different waves: Pilotwings 64, Mario Party, Mario Party 2, Mario Party 3, Pokémon Stadium, Pokémon Stadium 2, 1080 ° Snowboarding, Excitebike 64 and Goldeneye.

Lots of indies and some surprises

As in any self-respecting Nintendo event, we have also seen a roundup of independent productions that have been shadow-dropped or will arrive in the coming months. Among these we find the Switch versions of SIFU and Tunic, arriving respectively on November 9 and September 27. The Radiant Silvergun shoot ’em up is available today, just like Various Daylife.

Factorio, on the other hand, is out on October 28th. The Nintendo conference stage also hosted the announcement of the hybrid console edition of the interesting dungeon crwaler with roguelike elements Endless Dungeon, also due out in 2023. Among other products already known to the public that are also about to land on Switch we find LEGO Bircktales and Life is Strange Arcadia Bay Collection. To close the circle is Tales of Symphonia Remastered, which is scheduled for release in early 2023.

Tears of the Kingdom

It could only go differently: thereone more thing‘of the Nintendo Direct in September was absolutely supposed to be the sequel to The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild, which has finally returned to show itself with an exciting video full of gameplay scenes with Link in the center.

The final seconds of the trailer also revealed the title and release date, two long-awaited pieces of information: the game will be called The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom and will arrive on Nintendo Switch on May 12, 2023. In short, we could not have wished for a better ending to the Great N event.
