Also out of the race is KONE TAEVAST, the latest film by Kim Ki-duk, completed by friends and colleagues after the death of the filmmaker in 2020.

In Venice Classic spotlights on the documentary SERGIO LEONE – THE ITALIAN WHO INVENTED AMERICA by Francesco Zippel. SPACCAOSSA by Vincenzo Pirrotta makes its debut at the Giornate degli Autori – Notti veneziane, co-produced and co-written by Ficarra and Picone, a sulphurous story of crime and desperation inspired by a real story.

The playwright and poet Aldo Braibanti was sentenced to nine years of imprisonment on charges of plagiarism, that is, of having submitted to his will one of his students and a friend of recent age. KONE TAEVAST (THE CALL FROM HEAVEN) by Kim Ki-duk (Out of competition) with Zhanel Sergazina, Abylai Maratov (Sala Giardino at 5pm). A girl who dreams of one day meeting the love of her life and a man who has lived through many experiences are the protagonists of the latest film by Kim Ki-duk, shot in the summer of 2019 and completed by friends and colleagues of Kim after her unexpected disappearance in December 2020.

CARTIER GLORY TO THE FILMMAKER AWARD to WALTER HILL (Sala Grande at 9.45pm) followed by: DEAD FOR A DOLLAR by Walter Hill (Out of competition) with Christoph Waltz, Willem Dafoe, Rachel Brosnahan, Warren Burke. We are in 1897. The story follows the famous bounty hunter Max Borlund in Mexico; here he runs into Joe Cribbens, gambler and outlaw and his sworn enemy, whom Max had sent to prison a few years earlier.

SERGIO LEONE – THE ITALIAN WHO INVENTED AMERICA by Francesco Zippel (Venezia Classici), documentary (Sala Casino at 5pm). The film, enriched with precious archive materials, rare audio recordings and behind-the-scenes footage, sees the direct participation of the Leone family for the first time and contains interviews with both the director’s historical collaborators and Hollywood icons, from Eastwood to Tarantino. , from Scorsese to Damien Chazelle.
