Opel Zafira-e Life from van to camper with the Crosscamp Flex version

Announcement.

At Caravan Salon 2022, the most important world trade fair in the sector, currently taking place in Düsseldorf, Germany, Opel announces the arrival in 2023 of an all-electric camper version of the Zafira-e Life: zero emissions and up to 322 km of autonomy, complete equipment with appliances and four beds.

Zafira-e Life is the vehicle designed for those who want more space and flexibility on board and choose electric mobility even when traveling over the weekend or spending their camping holidays. At the Caravan Salon, Crosscamp’s urban camper specialists present a preview of the new battery electric model built on the basis of this Opel van, the Crosscamp Flex.

Auxiliary battery

The 75 kWh lithium-ion traction battery (placed under the floor to save space) allows you to travel longer and to recharge the vehicle more easily via wallbox, fast charging or even a cable for household sockets. Using 100 kW of direct current (DC), it takes about 48 minutes – says the manufacturer – for the battery to reach 80 percent of its functionality. To conserve energy in the traction battery, the 95 Ah auxiliary on board provides electricity for the lighting, for a refrigerated container and for the USB socket which, in turn, powers smartphones, cameras and other devices. .

Equipment and safety

Opel Zafira-e Life Crosscamp Flex focuses on practicality in function of a journey in peace. The features include, among other things, the front seats that rotate 180 degrees, a kitchenette, a sink, a gas cooker with its wall units, as well as containers for drinking and waste water. Thanks to the rear sofa, which quickly turns into a double bed, and two other beds under the roof, it can accommodate up to four people. All versions are also distinguished by the range of Opel van driver assistance systems offered as standard. The list includes accident warning, emergency braking, driver fatigue detection system, lane keeping assistance and traffic sign recognition with semi-active cruise control.

The starting point

In 2023 the electric Crosscamp Flex will join the diesel engine versions. Subsequently, the brand plans to offer the electric camper also in the Lite version. In the basic model, the Zafira Life, entry on board is via the sensor-controlled side sliding door to allow easier access to the second and third row of seats. A simple movement of the foot under the side of the vehicle is enough. The modularity provides different configurations and practical solutions such as the second row bench that can be lowered and removed for greater ease of use. The third row seats, on the other hand, are placed on rails to be reclined and removed more easily.

At the top of comfort is the Business Elegance trim: the first row is made up of two individual seats while the mobile lounge configuration allows rear passengers to be face-to-face. A total of 6 seats are offered as standard, with the possibility of increasing to 7 thanks to the positioning of a bench with 3 individual seats in the third row. The optional table, foldable and sliding between the second and third row, completes the whole. In the case of Opel Zafira e-Life, the Edition and Business Elegance versions are presented in a similar way while the Business Edition offers 9 or 8 seats due to the availability of only the M and L versions for the length of the vehicle.
